Maintaining Your Eligibility
To continue receiving federal financial aid, you must make satisfactory academic progress. This means maintaining good grades and completing enough classes to stay on track to graduate. Additionally, you must begin attendance and not officially or unofficially withdraw from all classes.
- Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP): Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements must be met to receive Financial Aid. SAP is calculated at the end of each semester. Students must meet ALL of the following minimum standards.
- Dropping or Withdrawing and Financial Aid: Students receiving federal financial aid who never attend or stop attending all active courses after federal financial aid has been disbursed may be required to pay back some or all of the funds disbursed to the college or Department of Education.
- Student Loan Default Help: Students need to make sure they understand their options and responsibilities before borrowing.
Check Your CCC Student Email
Financial Aid sends important information to your CCC student email. Check it consistently, including between semesters. Respond promptly when Financial Aid asks for information.
Messages may include:
- Requests for missing documents;
- Changes to your financial aid;
- Satisfactory Academic Progress notices;
- Appeal decisions; and
- Important deadlines
Attend Your Classes
Financial aid will only be offered for courses that count toward your degree completion. If you are registered in courses outside of your program, your financial aid offers and the way your financial aid pay for your courses may be impacted.
Make Satisfactory Academic Progress
To receive financial aid, all new, transfer, continuing and returning students must demonstrate they are successfully working toward completing their degree program in a timely manner.
Every semester (Fall, Spring and Summer), Coconino Community College is required by the federal government to evaluate whether you meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to receive financial aid. SAP is list of rules you must follow that measure whether you are making enough progress toward your degree or certificate to continue receiving financial aid. SAP is evaluated on your previous enrollment and your entire academic history, even if you have not received federal financial aid in the past. You always need to meet all three requirements.
- Maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Cumulative GPA measures your overall grades at CCC, not only your most recent semester.
- Complete and pass a minimum of 67% of ALL the credit hours attempted. For every class hour you attempt, you MUST complete and pass a minimum of 67% of them. Remember, all “attempted” credit hours is every hour you‘re enrolled, including repeat courses, developmental courses, and EVEN courses that you fail, withdraw from, or get an incomplete.
- Complete degree or certificate requirements within 150% of the minimum number of hours required to graduate. The percentage is a bit confusing. Here is a simple equation: multiply the minimum number of credit hours to complete your degree or certificate by 1.5. Let’s say your degree program takes 60 credit hours to graduate. 60 multiplied by 1.5 equals 90. This means to remain eligible for financial aid you must complete your program with no more than 90 attempted and completed hours. Having 90 credits gives you a little wiggle room if you happen to fail or withdraw from a class, but it is still encouraged to try your best to pass your classes the first time you take them.
Understading Your SAP Status and Suspension
If you do not meet one or more SAP standards, there can be consequences for getting financial aid in future semesters. When you miss the requirements, your CCC will notify you of your financial aid status and required next steps.

3. Fill Out & Submit Your FAFSA
Once you have your documents and information together, you are ready to fill out the FAFSA.
Note: At CCC, all eligible students must complete the FAFSA to receive any financial aid, even aid not directly tied to federal funding, like outside scholarships.
- If you plan to attend CCC during Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and/or Summer 2027 you need to fill out the 2026–27 FAFSA form using 2024 tax info. The 2026-27 FAFSA is open until June 30, 2027. Students are encouraged to apply early to take advantage of more aid.
- If you plan to attend CCC during Fall 2027, Spring 2028 and/or Summer 2028, you need to fill out the 2027–28 FAFSA form using 2025 tax info. The 2027-28 FAFSA will likely open October 1, 2026 and stay open until June 30, 2027. Students are encouraged to apply early to take advantage of more aid.

4. Complete You To-dos and Monitor Your Status
You can check your Financial Aid processing status by logging into the MyCCC portal [LINK] and clicking "Financial Aid." Monitor your CCC student email, as any messages from the Financial Aid Office will be sent there. Be sure to do any admissions or financial aid requests that need to be completed for financial aid or admissions. Outstanding items can prohibit you from registering for classes and from qualifying for financial aid awards.

5. Review and Accept Your Financial Aid Offer
Once your financial aid application file is complete, you’ll receive a financial aid package that outlines what you qualify for.
To accept your financial aid offer:
- Choose the aid year.
- Review your awards carefully and make sure you understand the requirements for accepting and keeping them. Accept, reduce or decline the loans offered to you.
- Complete the Entrance Counseling [link to https://studentaid.gov/entrance-counseling/undergraduate/loan-counseling/modules] and Master Promissory Note. [Link to https://studentaid.gov/mpn/] You have to complete these two items before your funds will appear in your account.

If you do not have enough financial aid to cover costs of classes, you will have to make payment plan arrangements with Student Accounts Office to pay for the remaining balance.

6. Apply for Additional Aid
CCC Encourages all students to apply for additional financial aid to help pay for school. Scholarships can help cover costs that federal financial aid does not. Explore scholarships offered by CCC and outside organizations, including community groups, foundations, businesses, and employers. Requirements and deadlines vary, so review each opportunity and apply early.
