Coconino Community College is committed to protecting the privacy of students, employees, and visitors who interact with our website and services. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

Website Information We Collect

When you visit coconino.edu, our website and server automatically collect certain system data for traffic analysis and to understand how our site is being used. This information includes:

• Generalized user demographics

• Internet protocol address of the device used (IP Address)

• Device type (desktop computer, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.)

• Browser type and version

• Date and time of accessed webpage

• Duration of time on webpage

• URL or webpage visited or requested

• Landing page and exit page

• Network type and internet provider

This information may be used with non-CCC services to better understand user interaction with our website. It may also be used in cases of misuse of CCC online services. 

Cookies

Your browser automatically collects cookies from the Coconino Community College website and its services without prior approval. Cookies are used by your browser to remember details of a webpage visit for consistency and convenience.

Coconino Community College does not store personally identifiable information in cookies. You can block cookies through your browser settings; however, some parts of the site may no longer function as intended.

Third-Party Online Services

CCC’s website may provide connections to external services and information provided by non-CCC parties. These services may include Google, including Gmail. Third-party services have their own privacy policies that are not covered by this Privacy Statement.

CCC is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services. We recommend reading the privacy policies of all non-CCC sites you visit. 

Text Messaging

When you opt in to CCC services that use text messages, you will receive SMS or MMS messages to your mobile number. These messages may include responses to inquiries or information about college services, programs, or deadlines.

You can cancel the SMS service at any time by texting STOP to the short code. After sending STOP, you will receive a confirmation message and will no longer receive SMS messages from that service.

Your Student Privacy Rights Under FERPA 

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is the federal law that governs the release of and access to student education records. As a CCC student, you have the following rights:

The right to inspect and review your education record.
You may request access to your education record within 45 days or less after CCC receives your request. To review your record, contact Registration and Enrollment Services to make appropriate arrangements.

The right to request an amendment to your education record.
 If you believe information in your record is inaccurate or misleading, submit a written statement to Registration and Enrollment Services clearly identifying the part of the record you want changed and why you believe it is inaccurate. Registration and Enrollment Services will consult with the appropriate college officials and notify you of the decision in writing via your CCC student email. You will also be advised of appropriate steps to appeal if you disagree with the decision.

The right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information.
CCC will not disclose personally identifiable information from your education records without your consent, except as authorized by FERPA. One authorized exception is disclosure to school officials with a legitimate educational interest. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if they have a need to know information from your record in order to fulfill official responsibilities. People who may have access, depending on their official duties, include college faculty and staff, agents of the institution, students employed by the institution or serving on official institutional committees, and representatives of agencies under contract with the College.

The right to file a complaint.
You have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by CCC to comply with FERPA requirements.

Directory Information
Under FERPA, CCC designates the following items as Directory Information: student name, address, telephone number, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, most recent previous school attended, email address, and photograph.
CCC may disclose any of those items without prior consent unless you notify us in writing to the contrary prior to or by the first day of classes each semester. To restrict disclosure of your directory information, contact Registration and Enrollment Services.
Annual FERPA Notification
CCC notifies all enrolled students of their FERPA rights each academic year. If you are a currently enrolled student, you will receive this notification directly. You may also view the current annual FERPA notice at any time.
