
Student Complaint Process
This process is intended for non-academic complaints. Issues involving grades, academic integrity, financial aid decisions, student conduct, or other matters that have their own appeal processes should be addressed through those specific procedures [found here: link to go there?].
Before you file a formal complaint
Most concerns can be resolved quickly through direct communication. We encourage students to work through the following steps first:
- Step 1: Talk with the Person Involved
- If you are comfortable doing so, discuss your concern directly with the college employee involved.
- Step 2: Contact Their Supervisor
- If the matter is not resolved, contact the appropriate supervisor:

Every effort will be made to resolve concerns at the lowest possible level.
Formal Complaint Process
If your concern is not resolved through the informal process, you may submit a formal written complaint to the Dean of Student Affairs.
Timeline
Formal complaints must be submitted within 10 college working days after an informal resolution has been offered.
Include the Following Information
- Your name
- The name of the employee involved, or the policy/procedure being challenged
- A description of the situation
- Date(s) of the incident(s)
- The outcome or resolution you are seeking
- Your signature
What Happens Next?
The Dean of Student Affairs will:
- Review the complaint
- Share the complaint with appropriate parties
- Work with those involved to seek a resolution
- Notify you of the outcome in writing
A response is generally provided within 10 college working days. [is this true?]
Appeal a decision
If you disagree with the outcome of the formal complaint process, you may appeal the decision.
Timeline
Appeals must be submitted within 10 college working days of receiving the formal complaint decision.
How to Appeal
Submit:
- A copy of your completed complaint documentation
- Any additional supporting information or evidence
Appeals should be sent to the Provost.
Review Process
The Provost will:
- Review and investigate the complaint
- Consider any supporting information
- Issue a written decision
A decision is typically provided within 20 college working days.
Possible outcomes include:
- Resolution of the complaint
- Dismissal of the complaint
- Other appropriate action
The Provost’s decision is final.
Distance Education Students Outside Arizona
Students enrolled in distance education courses who reside outside Arizona may file a complaint with the Arizona State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) Council after completing CCC’s complaint process.
