Advising Requirement
Starting in Fall 2026, new students will meet with an academic advisor during their first semester. This required appointment helps you build a strong plan, choose classes with confidence, and avoid surprises later.
Why Meet with an advisor?
Meeting with an advisor is one of the most practical things you can do for your academic future. Advising helps you:
- Choose the right classes: Make sure your courses match your degree, certificate, transfer goal, or career path.
- Save time and money: Avoid classes you do not need and keep moving toward your goal.
- Plan ahead: Get help preparing for registration, transfer, graduation, or a program change.
- Find the right support: Advisors can connect you with tutoring, financial aid, career services, disability resources, and more.
When should you meet with an Advisor?
Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor regularly, especially when you are:
- Starting at CCC: After you are admitted, meet with an advisor to talk through your goals and plan your first semester.
- Getting ready to register: Check in before choosing classes to make sure they fit your academic plan.
- Thinking about a change: Talk with an advisor before changing your major, dropping a class, or taking time away from school.
- Planning to transfer or graduate: Review your requirements, deadlines, and next steps before you reach the finish line.
- Running into challenges: Advisors can help you talk through academic concerns and connect you with support.

General Academic Advising
For students not planning to transfer to NAU
For students who need help choosing classes, exploring majors, planning a degree or certificate, or preparing to transfer to ASU, UArizona, GCU, or another college.
TRIO Student Support Services
For first-generation students and those who qualify for Student Support Services
TRIO participants receive one-on-one advising and access to a full range of student support services through their assigned TRIO advisor.
CCC2NAU
For students planning to transfer to NAU
For students in CCC2NAU or planning to transfer to NAU. Get help with academic planning, course selection, and transfer preparation.
Disability Resources
For students with disabilities
Students accepted into the Disability Resources (DR) program receive advising and academic accommodations support through a dedicated Disability Resources advisor.
What to do before your scheduled appointment
Ready to meet with an advisor? Start by making sure your admissions process is complete. The New Student Checklist walks you through every step before your first advising appointment.
New students: Once your admissions is complete, watch your CCC email for a scheduling link. Completing the checklist first helps make sure your advisor has what they need to help you plan your first semester.
Returning students: Log in to your myCCC Portal to schedule your next appointment, and check your CCC email for updates from your advisor.

- When should I meet with an advisor?
You should meet with an advisor when you are starting at CCC, getting ready to register for classes, thinking about changing your major, planning to transfer or graduate, or running into academic challenges.
- What can an academic advisor help me with?
An advisor can help you choose classes, understand your degree or certificate requirements, explore majors and career paths, prepare for transfer, and connect with campus resources such as tutoring, financial aid, career services, and Disability Resources.
- Which advising team should I choose?
Most students should start with General Academic Advising. Students in CCC2NAU, TRIO Student Support Services, or Disability Resources may work with a specialized advisor through that program. If you are not sure where to start, contact Student Services and they can help connect you with the right advisor.
- Can I meet with an advisor online?
Yes. Virtual appointments through Zoom are available across advising teams. You can choose your preferred appointment format when scheduling.
- What should I do before my advising appointment?
Before your appointment, make sure your admissions process is complete, activate your myCCC Portal, check your CCC email, and gather any documents that may help your advisor, such as unofficial transcripts, test scores, or recent high school records.
- I am a new student. When can I schedule advising?
New students should complete the admissions process first. After your admissions process is finalized, watch your CCC email for a scheduling link.
