Frequently ASKED questions
What is a Field of Interest?
Fields of Interest are broad categories that group related academic programs, degrees, and certificates together. They are designed to help you explore areas of study that match your goals, strengths, and curiosity before committing to a specific program.
Do I have to choose a Field of Interest before I apply?
No. You can apply to CCC and begin taking classes while you explore your options. Meeting with an advisor early can help you identify programs that align with your interests and build a plan for your first semester.
What if I don't know what I want to study?
That’s completely normal. Start by browsing the Fields of Interest that catch your attention. You can also schedule an advising appointment and we’ll help you explore programs that match your goals, skills, and career interests.
How are Fields of Interest different from majors or programs?
A Field of Interest is a broad category used to help you explore. Once you find an area that interests you, you’ll choose a specific degree, certificate, or pathway within that field.
Can I take classes from more than one Field of Interest?
Yes. Many students take courses across multiple areas, especially while they are still exploring their options or working toward a degree that spans more than one subject area.
Will my Field of Interest affect my transfer options?
It can. Different transfer pathways are designed around specific degree programs and university majors. An advisor can help you choose courses within your Field of Interest that align with your transfer goals and keep you on track for a smooth transition.
