Mathematics

How can we help?

Numbers are just the beginning.

The most valuable thing a math education gives you is not a set of formulas. It is a way of thinking. Mathematical reasoning, quantitative analysis and problem-solving are among the most sought-after skills in today's job market, and they apply to virtually every field from data science and finance to medicine, engineering, and education.

Program Options

  • Associate of Science (AS) Transfer Degree
  • AGEC-S Certificate
  • Individual AGEC Math courses

More than a Requirement

Math courses are not just for students planning to transfer into a science or engineering degree. Strong quantitative skills are foundational to many of CCC’s career and technical programs as well, including:

  • Data Science
  • Nursing and Allied Health
  • Business and Accounting
  • Construction Technology
  • Early Childhood Education

If you are enrolled in any CTE program at CCC, talk to an advisor about which math course is the right fit for your pathway.

The Associate of Science (AS) Degree

The AS degree is designed for students planning to transfer into majors with mathematics and science requirements, including mathematics, engineering, biology, chemistry, geology and physics. It combines a full general education core with a degree-specific math and science sequence that prepares you to enter a four-year program as a competitive transfer student.

What Can I Do within Mathematics?

Math occupations consistently rank among the fastest-growing and highest-paying in the country. The demand is being driven by the explosion of data across every industry, from healthcare and finance to government and technology. Every new AI system, financial model and research study still requires people who understand the math underneath it.

Career paths students pursue after transferring include: (Pair down/change the list)

  • Data Scientist
  • Research Analyst
  • Financial or Investment Analyst
  • Statistician or Mathematician
  • Budget or Business Analyst
  • Engineer (with further education in engineering)
  • Math or Science Teacher (with further education)

What Will I Learn?

  • Applications of mathematics across real-world contexts
  • Quantitative reasoning and mathematical problem-solving
  • Algebraic and statistical thinking (this sounds scary?)
  • Calculus and analytical geometry (for AS degree students)
  • Data analysis and mathematical modeling
  • Logical reasoning and proof

Transfer Options

All CCC science courses transfer to NAU, ASU and the University of Arizona as AGEC Natural Sciences credit.

The AS degree and AGEC-Science Certificate are specifically designed to maximize transfer credit for students entering science-intensive bachelor’s programs. CCC has established agreements with Arizona’s public universities, so the credits you earn here are recognized when you transfer.

Please meet with an Advisor to discuss options.
