Financial Aid

To receive financial aid, all new, transfer, continuing and returning students must demonstrate they are successfully working toward completing their degree program in a timely manner. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is a list of rules you must follow that measure whether you are making enough progress toward your degree or certificate to continue receiving the federal financial aid

Every semester (Fall, Spring and Summer), Coconino Community College is required by the federal government to evaluate whether you meet the SAP requirements to receive financial aid. This federal aid is given to the school through Title IV legislation, so CCC has the responsibility to follow the law and make sure funding is given only to students who meet all the standards.

SAP is evaluated on any previous enrollment and your entire academic history, even if you have not received federal financial aid in the past. You always need to meet all three requirements.

• Maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Cumulative GPA measures your overall grades at CCC, not only your most recent semester.
• Complete and pass a minimum of 67% of ALL the credit hours attempted. This means that you need to pass two-thirds of the classes you take. Any time you sign up for a class it counts as an “attempted credit.” Attempted credit hours include every hour you‘re enrolled, such as repeat courses, developmental courses, and even courses that you fail, withdraw from, or get an incomplete in.
• Complete degree or certificate requirements within 150% of the minimum number of hours required to graduate. The percentage can be a bit confusing. Here is a simple equation: multiply the minimum number of credit hours to complete your degree or certificate by 1.5. 

Let’s say your degree program takes 60 credit hours to graduate. 60 x 1.5 = 90. This means to remain eligible for financial aid you must complete your program with no more than 90 attempted and completed hours. In this example, you would need to pass 60 credit hours, but would have 30 credit hours of wiggle room to use if you happen to fail or withdraw from some classes. We still encourage you to try your best to stay enrolled in and pass your classes the first time you take them.

If you do not meet one or more SAP standards, there can be consequences for getting financial aid in future semesters. When you miss the requirements, your CCC will notify you of your financial aid status and required next steps. Not knowing or understanding SAP standings or processes, or not being advised by CCC about SAP, is not a vaild reason for an appeal and will not be considered. 

You are responsible for monitoring your Satisfactory Academic Progress and contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid if you have questions or concerns.

CCC sends a notice to your student email when your semester-end SAP status is:

• Warning;
• Probation; 
• Academic Plan; or
• Suspension.
