CCC’s ESL program helps adults build strong English skills for everyday life, work, and education. Classes are free, welcoming, and open to all levels, from true beginners to advanced learners ready to take the next step.

Current Classes

English Language Classes

True Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced level mixed skills classes. Our basic English classes are a fun and engaging way for students to learn English vocabulary and grammar in context while gaining skills and strategies in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Civics Class

Students learn about United States history and government while also improving their English language skills. Students will also be prepared to pass the citizenship test for naturalization and/or passing the Arizona required civics portion of the GED test.

Student Leadership Group

Build advocacy and leadership skills while strengthening your English communication abilities. You'll complete real projects that develop your voice and confidence, including speaking with community decision-makers, writing for a newsletter, or creating a blog.

College & Career Success Class

This class helps you build the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to reach your college and career goals.

You’ll hear from guest speakers across CCC and the community, including representatives from CCC’s Career Services and Admissions offices, as well as GCU’s Foreign Credential Evaluation Liaison. [What does this person do?]

How to Register

We accept new students all year who are at least 16 years old and legally present in the United States. A valid government ID is required for registration (Driver’s License or Passport).

English as a second language FAQS

Are ESL classes free?
Yes. CCC’s ESL program is offered at no cost to eligible participants. Classes are free for adults who meet enrollment requirements.
Who can take ESL classes?
Adults who are 16 years or older who legally live in the United States. You need a valid government ID, like a driver’s license or passport, to register.
When are classes offered?
ESL classes follow a quarterly schedule. New sessions begin throughout the year, so you do not have to wait until fall to get started. Contact the Adult Education office for current class schedules and upcoming session start dates.
Where are classes held?
Classes are offered in person at our Fourth Street location:

Some classes are also available remotely via Zoom for students with access to a laptop or PC and a reliable internet connection. Contact the Adult Education team if you do not have access to technology to explore available options.
What if I'm a beginner?
CCC’s ESL program has four levels of instruction:
- True Beginner
- High Beginner
- Intermediate
- Advanced
You will take a placement test to decide your level. Your teacher will help you start the right class.
What comes after ESL?
Many students use ESL as a first step toward new opportunities at CCC, including college credit courses, career training programs, and GED preparation. Eligible students who complete ESL Level 4 or higher through CCC may also qualify for a Tuition Assistance Grant to help cover the cost of continuing their education.
