THE ESL Program at CCC
CCC's ESL program helps adults build strong English skills for everyday life, work, and education. Classes are free, welcoming, and open to all levels, from true beginners to advanced learners ready to take the next step.
Whether you're new to English or building toward college or career goals, there is a place for you here.
Current Classes
English Language Classes
Four levels of instruction from True Beginner through Advanced. Our basic English classes are a welcoming and engaging way to build vocabulary and grammar skills in context. You'll develop strategies for reading, writing, listening, and speaking that you can use immediately in everyday life, at work, and in your community.
Civics Class
Learn about United States history and government while strengthening your English skills.
This class also prepares students for the U.S. citizenship naturalization test and the civics portion of the Arizona GED exam.
Student Leadership Group
Build advocacy and leadership skills while strengthening your English communication abilities. You'll complete real projects that develop your voice and confidence, including speaking with community decision-makers, writing for a newsletter, or creating a blog.
College & Career Success Class
This interactive, workshop-style class helps you build the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to reach your college and career goals.
How to Register
We accept new students all year who are at least 16 years old and legally present in the United States. A valid government ID is required for registration (Driver’s License or Passport).

Are ESL classes free?
Yes. CCC’s ESL program is offered at no cost to eligible participants. Classes are free for adults who meet enrollment requirements.
Who can enroll in ESL classes?
ESL classes are open to adults who are at least 16 years old and legally present in the United States. A valid government-issued ID such as a driver’s license or passport is required to register.
How do I register?
New students are accepted throughout the year. To get started, contact the Adult Education office to schedule a registration appointment. You will complete a placement assessment to help determine the right level for you.

When are classes offered?
ESL classes follow a quarterly schedule. New sessions begin throughout the year, so you do not have to wait until fall to get started. Contact the Adult Education office for current class schedules and upcoming session start dates.
Where are classes held?
Classes are offered in person at our Fourth Street location:

Some classes are also available remotely via Zoom for students with access to a laptop or PC and a reliable internet connection. If you lack technology resources, contact the Adult Education team to explore available options.
What if I'm a complete beginner?
You are welcome. CCC’s ESL program offers four levels of instruction, starting with True Beginner. Your placement assessment will help determine the right starting point, and your instructor will support you every step of the way.
What comes after ESL?
Many students use ESL as a first step toward new opportunities at CCC, including college credit courses, career training programs, and GED preparation. Eligible students who complete ESL Level 4 or higher through CCC may also qualify for a Tuition Assistance Grant to help cover the cost of continuing their education.
