Veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and military-connected families are part of the CCC community.

Military service can affect how you pay for college, choose classes, or handle changes during the semester. Military training and experience may also count toward college credit.

CCC’s Veteran Services team can help you use VA education benefits, complete required forms, certify your enrollment, and connect with other college and community resources.

Certify Your Benefits Each Semester

Registering for classes does not automatically certify your enrollment with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

If you are using VA education benefits, you must submit CCC’s Request for Certification of Educational Benefits each semester you want to use your benefits. CCC must review your courses before certifying your enrollment because VA education benefits can only be used for eligible coursework. Before CCC can certify your enrollment, you must be admitted, enrolled, have a declared major, and have required official transcripts received and evaluated.

Make Sure Your Classes Count

VA education benefits generally can only be certified for courses that apply to your CCC degree or certificate. A course may not be eligible if:

• It is not required for your current program.
• You already completed the requirement at CCC or another college.
• You already received applicable transfer or military credit for the requirement.

Talk with your academic advisor and Veteran Services before registering if you are unsure whether a class can be certified.

20If you receive VA education benefits, you may need to confirm your enrollment with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs each month to continue receiving your payments.

This includes students using:

• Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) who receive a Monthly Housing Allowance and/or kicker payment
• Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30)
• Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)
• Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)

This means monthly verification may apply to veterans, service members, and eligible spouses or dependents.

Verification is separate from CCC’s semester certification process. CCC certifies your enrollment with the VA, and you then verify with the VA that your enrollment is still correct.

College looks different for every military-connected student. You may be returning to school after years away, attending while serving, balancing school and family, or planning a new career after military service.

CCC has resources to help with more than paying for college.
