Comet Promise

Your other financial aid, such as the Pell Grant, scholarships, and other awards, applies first. If there is still tuition remaining after that, the Comet Promise covers the difference.

For example, let’s say your tuition is $1,500. You get $500 from the Pell Grant and $300 from a scholarship. The Comet Promise will cover the remaining $700.

You do not need to be a full-time student to qualify. Unlike most Promise programs, CCC extends this opportunity to part-time students taking six or more credits per semester.

To qualify for the Comet Promise, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Residency or Local Connection

One of the following must be true:

• You have lived in Coconino County for at least 12 months before the semester begins.

OR

• You have graduated from a Coconino County high school, homeschool program, or earned a GED or HSE while living in Coconino County.

If you no longer live in Coconino County your tuition classification may show “out-of-county,” but you may still qualify. Contact Financial Aid to confirm.

2. FAFSA Application

You must submit one of the following:

• A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year

OR

• CCC Alternative Aid Application [Please confirm name of form](for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA)

3. Financial Eligibility

Once CCC has processed your aid application, your financial eligibility will be decided in one of two ways:

• Income-based:
  • Your household income is $65,000 or less.
  • You did not get a Pell Grant or it did not fully cover tuition.

OR

• Automatic Qualifiers (no income requirement):
  • Proposition 308 eligible students (DREAMers)
  • Students with parental refusal to sign the FAFSA (with documentation)
  • Former foster youth up to age 26
  • Students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity
  • Honorably discharged veterans using VA education benefits
  • Students approved for dependency overrides or hardship circumstances

4. Enrollment

After your eligibility has been confirmed, you need to register for classes. To get the Comet Promise you need to be enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester and must be pursuing a degree or certificate.

5. Academic Progress

Students need to successfully pass most of their classes to keep getting financial aid. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) are the rules you need to follow to get your money in future semesters. Learn more about what SAP is and how to be successful in your classes.

If there are more eligible students than available Promise funds, CCC will give priority to students who: [Who is given priority?]

• Are the first in their family to go to college
• Have significant financial need
• Contribute to their communities through public service or civic activities
• Come from rural/remote parts of Coconino County
