What is the comet promise?
The Comet Promise is a tuition support program for eligible Coconino County students.
Here is how it works:
Your other financial aid, Pell grants, scholarships, and other awards, applies first. If there is still tuition remaining after that, the Comet Promise covers the difference.
You do not need to be a full-time student to qualify. Unlike most Promise programs, CCC extends this opportunity to part-time students taking six or more credits per semester, because we know most of our students are balancing work, family, and life alongside their classes.

Who is Eligible?
To qualify for the Comet Promise, you must meet the following requirements:
Residency or Local Connection
You must meet one of the following:
- Lived in Coconino County for at least 12 months before the semester begins
OR
- Graduated from a Coconino County high school, homeschool program, or earned a GED or HSE while living in Coconino County
Note: Your tuition classification may still show “out-of-county,” but you may still qualify. Contact Financial Aid to confirm.
FAFSA Application
You must submit one of the following:
- Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year
OR
- CCC Alternative Aid Application (for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA)
Financial Eligibility
Students qualify through one of two pathways:
- Income-based:
- Household income of $65,000 or less
- Pell Grant not received or does not fully cover tuition
OR
- Automatic Qualifiers (no income requirement):
- Proposition 308 eligible students (DREAMers)
- Students with parental refusal to sign the FAFSA (with documentation)
- Former foster youth up to age 26
- Students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity
- Honorably discharged veterans using VA education benefits
- Students approved for dependency overrides or hardship circumstances
Enrollment
- Enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester
- Pursuing a degree or certificate
Academic Progress
Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the CCC Financial Aid Office.

- Enroll in at least 6 credits
